Neodymium Discs

Australia’s Best Range of Neodymium Disc Magnets

A disc magnet is a round magnet with a larger diameter than height measurement. Rare Earth disc magnets are a key component of tools, equipment, audio products and an endless array of household items. These small round magnets are so commonplace you have almost certainly used one today.

We stock tiny Neodymium disc magnets starting at just 2mm in diameter and large industrial-scale magnets.

You won’t find our range of stock or quality magnets at any general hardware store like Bunnings. Our website allows you to buy disc magnets and any other magnetic products from the comfort of your home, and we deliver Australia-wide.

Choosing the right magnet

We know from our customers that selecting the right magnet for their purposes can be challenging. The shape of the magnet is just one consideration when making your selection. A disc magnet has a wide surface, meaning it provides a stable magnetic hold that is not easily displaced. The low profile of a disc magnet means minimal bulk is added when the thin magnet is attached externally to an object. Its shallow profile allows it to be inset within an object for a flush exterior. The circular shape is ideal for anyone working with tools, as a drill hole can be utilised to create the perfect housing.

Customers also need to consider the strength of the magnet. Generally, a magnet's strength is determined by the amount of Neodymium magnetic material present. However, the grade of the magnet is also a factor. An N52 grade magnet is the most powerful grade of Neodymium, and a magnet of this grade would outperform a magnet in the same dimension of a lower grade. There are also grades that provide greater resistance to high operating temperatures than a normal Rare Earth magnet.

The industry standard is for Neodymium magnets to be nickel-coated (Ni). This gives Rare Earth magnets the shiny silver appearance they are known for. However, there are a number of alternate coatings available. Coatings such as Gold (Au) and Parylene-C provide superior performance in damp environments as they are more resistant to corrosion due to moisture.

Rubber and plastic are popular coating choices for customers who wish to use their magnets in situations that cause an impact on the magnet; such as gates opening and closing with force. Neodymium is a brittle material and it can easily splinter or fracture.

Our Sydney warehouse has a wide and diverse range of disc magnets in stock and ready to ship anywhere in the world. We understand that some applications require a custom product. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like a quote for a batch of custom-made magnets.

We have a knowledgeable team and are happy to help our customers find the best magnets for their needs. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to discuss bulk order discounts.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel vertically. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel)  are generally able to hold around 30% of the pull force listed due to the effects of gravity and the lack of traction between the surface and the shiny magnet.
